James “Jimmy” Johnson, age 80 of Raleigh, North Carolina died Thursday, May 4, 2023 in his home. He was born October 15, 1942 in Wake County to the late William Francis Johnson and Virginia Jessup Price. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Frances Ann Johnson; his sister, Barbara J. Williamson and his brother, Billy Johnson.
He is survived by his wife, Jeannette Batts Johnson; his daughter, Teresa Johnson Blackwell and her husband, Mitchell Scott; his grandchildren, Jordan Blackwell and Laurie Blackwell; his sister, Shirley McLaren; his sister-in-law, Helen Johnson and great-grandpuppies, Echo, Sadie and Waylon.
Jimmy as he was known by most was a loving husband, father and grandfather. It was not out of the norm to find him traveling with his family to sporting events especially baseball games with Jordan and softball games with Laurie. Jimmy loved to fish and always enjoyed his time fishing on the Neuse River in Havelock. In his earlier years, he even spent time on the drag strip driving a drag car.
His visitation will be held Tuesday, May 9, 2023 from 10:00 am to 10:45 am in the Bryan-Lee Funeral Home.
His funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at 11:00 am in the Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner with Reverends Tommy Batts and Gerald Blake officiating. The burial to follow in Montlawn Memorial Park.
Serving as pallbearers will be Mark Batts, Ronnie Sharp, George Peed, Cole Glover, Donnie Isaacs and Craig Tunstall.
