James Lloyd Gurley Jr. of Raleigh, age 64, entered Heaven on August 21. His family was by his side. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Natalie Gurley of Willow Spring, and grandchildren, Lydia and Ella. Also surviving are his mother and father, James and Geraldine Gurley of Smithfield, brother and sister-in-law, Russell and Tina Gurley of Smithfield, sister and brother-in-law, Trudy and Al Rains of Smithfield, as well as four nieces and their families. Preceding his death was his soul mate and loving wife, Sharon Farrior Gurley. Lloyd continued to share a special relationship with Sharon’s family. Surviving are Sharon’s mother, Elgia Scott Farrior of Kenly, and her daughters and sons-in-law, Vicky and Ken Barnes of Chesapeake (VA), Ann and Phil Cunningham of Garner and Teena and Larry Smith of Oklahoma City (OK). Lloyd loved the Lord Jesus Christ. He was an active member and Deacon of Temple Baptist Church, a friend to many and an avid golfer. Lloyd worked with Gregory Poole Equipment Company for 36 years, most recently as Chief Information Officer. The family would like to thank the staff of Springbrook for their excellent care of Lloyd. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 831 Wake Forest Road, Raleigh. Services will be at Temple Baptist Church, 1417 Clifton Street, Raleigh, on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Creechs Cemetery on Creechs Mill Road in Smithfield. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to Temple Baptist Church, specifying the Audio Visual (AV) Fund on behalf of Deacon Gurley.
