James M. “Jimmy” Dean, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2017 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh NC. He was born in Kinston North Carolina, October 10, 1947, to the late Howard and Doris Dean. He married the late Carolyn Mae H. Dean who passed August 13, 1984. He is survived by his daughter Kimberly D. Cardin and husband Ray of Raleigh; granddaughter, Alexandria Dean of Raleigh; brother, Howard Dean and wife Diana, and family of Charlotte; brother, Joseph Dean and wife Trish, and family of Winston-Salem. Jimmy fought for this country during the Vietnam War, as a member of the United States Navy, receiving three service medals and was honorably discharged. He began working as a superintendent for CC Mangum Construction, and T R Vernal Paving and retired after twenty plus years on the job. Jimmy was well known for enjoying billiards with friends and league play. He traveled to Las Vegas to participate in a large billiard tournament. He loved riding around in his ’82 Corvette with his Grand Daughter, on trips to the beach. Pier fishing was one of his favorite hobbies, and there was no such thing as, a bad day fishing! He will be leaving behind a mountainous coin collection for his daughter and granddaughter to swim through. A Celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, October 12, 2017 at Penny Road Church of the Nazarene. Visitation with family will be held from 1:00-2:00pm. Thank you to the staff at Rex Hospital for their excellent care and efforts. Thank you also to the dialysis center on Bush Street for their care during treatments.
