James Wegman passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 18, 2024. Jim was born on January 9, 1947 in Lonaconing, Maryland and was predeceased by his father Edward Joseph Wegman, his mother Edna Marie (Robertson) Wegman and his sister Nancy Marie Wegman. He is survived by his brother Larry Wegman and sister-in-law Shelly Howard Wegman.
A 1965 graduate of Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in Wheaton, Maryland Jim served with pride in the United States Marine Corps from 1967 to 1971 rising to the rank of Lance Corporal. He served a tour of duty in Vietnam as part of the Marine Corps detachment aboard the USS America – CVA66. Upon completion of his overseas tour, he returned to Camp Lejeune and Camp Geiger as a member of the Second Marine Division where he served as an instructor.
After his time in the Marine Corps Jim served as a letter carrier and then supervisor for the US Postal Service in Prince Georges County Maryland for more than 25 years before retiring to Garner, North Carolina in 2002.
Jim was an avid sports fan who loved baseball, football, fishing and golf and was a skilled marksman in the shooting sports winning the Maryland state trapshooting championship in the early 80s. As a long-suffering fan of the Washington Senators/Nationals was very pleased to witness the Nationals win the 2019 World Series.
A private memorial is being planned and any contributions can be made to the Semper Fi and America’s Fund at thefund.org website.
