James R. Addlesberger

August 23, 1941 — June 8, 2020

RALEIGH - James R. Addlesberger, 78, passed away Monday, June 8, 2020 at The Cardinal at North Hills, where he had been a resident for nearly 2 years. Jim was born on August 23, 1941 in Philadelphia, PA, the son of the late Robert “Bob” and Dorothy “Dot” Addlesberger. Both determined and intelligent, Jim excelled academically. He graduated from Olney High School in Philadelphia, class of 1959, and went on to attend Drexel University in Philadelphia, where he received his Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering. At age 12, Jim met a young woman, Barbara Elaine Grant. Jim and Barbara began their courtship at the age of 16, and at the age of 19 Jim married his high school sweetheart. Their marriage of 59 years brought many adventures. Jim’s work as a Sales Executive took them to live in various places in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Massachusetts. They loved to travel and enjoyed the time spent with each other and their family on many vacations. Some of Jim’s favorite trips included those to Russia, Turkey, Europe, and across the United States. In his earlier years Jim served as an Eagle Scout, played football in high school, and spent time as a life guard; experiences he was proud of throughout his life. As a father, Jim and his wife spent many years watching their daughters at countless horseshows. In his spare time, he could be found enjoying yard work or watching football. His sense of humor and determined nature will be greatly missed in the days ahead by all who had the privilege to know him. Jim is survived by his wife, Barbara Addlesberger; daughters, Kimberly Claiborne and husband, Gary of Apex, NC, Elizabeth Crannell and husband, William of Franklin, TN; grandchildren, Charlotte Claiborne, Cole Crannell, Hudson Crannell; step-granddaughter, Adelaide Claiborne; brother, Robert Addlesberger and wife, Suzanne of Warminster, PA; and a host of extended family and friends. Due to the current circumstances facing our country, no local services are planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jim’s memory to The American Stroke Association. Arrangements by Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Raleigh. In Loving Memory of James “Jim” Addlesberger.
