GARNER – James Robert Baker, 47, passed away unexpectedly on August 29, 2024. Born in St. Mary’s
County, Maryland, he was the son of Beth Ann Morgan Maynard Baker Chappelear and the late Robert “Bob”
Baker.
In addition to his father, James is preceded in death by his grandparents, whom James loved very
dearly.
James was a loving husband and father. He loved Jesus and tried to walk in faith daily. He cared for his
wife and sons intensely, doing what he thought was best for them always. James enjoyed Boy Scouts as a
child and passed that passion on to his sons and where he spent a lot of time helping the Packs and Troops
to which the boys belonged. James worked for 84 Lumber for 18 years. He designed premanufactured
components and ended his career in 84 Lumber’s IT department as a Helpdesk Specialist, helping others
all hours of the day and night. He will be remembered fondly by his family, friends and co-workers as a
man of great character, humor, devotion, and compassion.
James is survived his loving wife of 23 years (30 years together as childhood sweethearts), Cecilia Lynn
Baker; two children, Seth Nathaniel Baker and Ethan Gabriel Baker. Additionally, he is survived by his
mother, Beth Baker Chappelear; brother Andrew Baker (Allison) and sisters Sherry Rachel Baker (Edson)
and Linde Marie Chappelear Hill (Billy).
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at Relentless Church, 1540
Mechanical Boulevard, Garner, NC 27529. The family will receive friends for a period of visitation prior
to the service from 10:00 AM – 11:45 AM at the church. A Celebration of Life will take place on
September 20, 2024 at Real Life Church, 27399 Old Village Road, Mechanicsville, MD 20659.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in James’ memory to Relentless Church, 1540
