James S. Smith

GARNER – James Sylvester Smith, 60, died Friday at his home. Born in Virginia, he was the son of the late Lev Murl Smith and Eula Mae Stanley Smith.  James lived in the Raleigh area for over 30 years.  He started his own business, Smith Masonry Construction Co. over 30 years ago.  James was a very loyal fan of Garner Trojan football and loved to stand on the sidelines with the team and coaches. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Monday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Chapel, Garner. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 am prior to the service.  Burial will be 2:00 pm at Montlawn Memorial Park. Survivors include the love of his life, Elaine  Burtchette Wilder;  sons, James Lamar Smith of Oak Ridge, TN and Christopher Lee Smith of Big Stone Gap, VA; sister, Linda Smith, brother, Lev Smith, Jr. both of Norton, Va.; grandchild, Khloe Brooke Smith and also by many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by step-daughter, Sharon Renee Wilder; brothers, Kenneth, Bobby, Albert, Frank and Joe Smith, as well as sisters, Norma Jean Armistead and Sandra Gail Smith. Memorials contributions may be made to Layden Memorial United Methodist Church, 2607 S. Wilmington St. Raleigh, NC 27603.
