James William “Bill” Yelvington, age 94, of the Cleveland Community, Clayton, NC, died December 29th, 2023. A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 PM, January 6, 2024, at the Oakland Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Officiating will be the Rev. Debbie Osterhoudt.
Bill was born in Johnston County to the late John Eustace Yelvington, Sr. and Mary Johnson Yelvington. He was also preceded in death by sisters Doris C. Yelvington, Elizabeth Ann Yelvington, and brother John Eustace Yelvington, Jr.
He was a lifelong member of Oakland Presbyterian Church. Bill served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was proud of his service with the 5th Regimental Combat Team in the “Punchbowl” in Korea. He was a longtime member and past Vice Commander of American Legion Banner Post 109 in Benson, NC. Bill was a retired farmer, cattleman, and farm equipment salesman.
Bill is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, P. Kelly Yelvington Luter and Bret Thomas Luter, of the Cleveland Community, Clayton, NC, and his grandson Thomas Keene Luter of NC State University, Raleigh, NC, as well as nieces and nephews.
The Yelvington Luter family wish to express their thanks and appreciation to the Smithfield Manor and SECU Hospice House staff.
