Jane Jensen Mcglade-Warsaw

Jane Warsaw, a national pioneer and leader in the creation and administration of hospital information systems, died peacefully on February 1 in Raleigh, North Carolina after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Born Jane Frances Jensen in Waterloo, Iowa on August 10, 1934 to her now-deceased parents August and Margaret Jensen and sister to her deceased brother Jerry Lee Jensen, Jane graduated from Waterloo Sacred Heart Catholic  high school and then entered Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa where she earned a degree in Nursing in 1954.  While married to Richard McGlade, Jane became the mother of her six children, earned a B.A. and a M.A. in Public Administration from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and worked first as a nurse and then the founding Director of Information Systems for the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) from the 1950s through the 1970s.  After the successful implementation of UNMC’s hospital information system – one of the first systems of its kind in the United States – Jane continued her prestigious career serving as a Chief Information Officer and as a healthcare information systems consultant through her own firm, JJW Consultants, to such companies as Arthur Anderson, Datacare, the Humana hospital system, and the Virginia Beach Medical Center through the 1980s and 1990s.  When her Parkinson’s disease required Jane to stop working, she continued giving and serving to the Raleigh community and wider public as an active member of the North Carolina League of Women Voters and parishioner and child daycare worker at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.  In 2001 only 10 days after the 9-11 Tragedy in New York City, Jane and her eldest daughter Jacqueline carried the North Carolina state banner among over 10,000 people in the inaugural Parkinson’s Unity Walk in Central Park– an event she saw as a triumph over her long struggle with the disease. With her second husband, Edward Warsaw, Jane also enjoyed gardening, sailing, singing and dancing in local groups, and being an active hostess of many festive occasions for family and friends at their homes in Sneads Ferry, North Carolina and at Magnolia Glen in Raleigh. As a long-time resident at Rex Nursing Home, Jane greatly appreciated all of the kind care, attention and friendship that the nursing staff, patient supporters, and residents brought to her life.  Jane is survived by her six children, Jacqueline, Michael, Patricia, Timothy, Stephen and James McGlade, her daughters-in-law Carol and Abbie, and her four grandchildren Jacob, Margaret, Kylie and James. Services will be held Saturday, 2/10/18, 12:00 pm at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 2718 Overbrook Drive, Raleigh 27608. The family will receive friends on Friday, 2/9/18 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 831 Wake Forest Road, Raleigh 27604.
