Janice Ogburn Dupree, 82, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2025. She was born in Johnston County, North Carolina, on October 6, 1942, and was the daughter of the late Joseph Lester Ogburn, Sr. and Ada Margaret Ogburn.
Janice was a loving wife, sister, aunt, and friend. She was a high school business education teacher for 31 years and was incredibly passionate about teaching her students. When she retired in 2000, she became a member of the retired Administrative Teachers and Staff (RATS) group which she met with monthly and always remained an active member of. She was also a talented pianist and cherished her time spent playing the piano in her church choir. In addition to this she was active in many roles in the Gideons Auxiliary including visits to women in the local detention center. Later in her life she met and married her great love and best friend, Thomas Layton Dupree, and they spent many memorable years together before his passing on November 29, 2024. The thing Janice was most fond of was her family, especially her nieces and nephews who she was incredibly close with, her love and commitment to her family was something to admire and was reflected in all that she did. She will be remembered fondly by her family and friends as a woman of great faith, charisma, strength, and compassion.
In addition to her parents, Janice is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Layton Dupree; brothers, Joe Ogburn, and Staley Ogburn; sister, Margaret O. Raper; and niece, Linda B. Kidd, all of whom she loved very dearly.
