Jean Candedo Holbrook

Jean C. Holbrook, 88, of Clayton, NC, passed on July 20, 2023. A native of Morehead City, Jean was born November 16, 1934 to the late Roland Ray and Mattie Arthur Barbour. She was a longtime member of St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church. After graduating from UNC, Jean worked for RACAL, a defense contractor, as an accountant for 14 years before she stepped away with her husband, Lou Candedo to start an art gallery. They opened Candedo Originals in Crabtree Valley Mall, where their business expanded for many years. She and Lou moved to Georgia for some time to be closer to family, before returning to reopen the gallery in Garner. Several years after Lou passed, Jean married Paul Holbrook.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at 12PM, in the Bryan-Lee Funeral Home Chapel, 1200 Benson Road Garner, NC 27529. Entombment will follow at the Montlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 11-12, at the funeral home.

Jean is survived by her brothers, William Arthur Barbour and wife, Maxine and Roland Ray Barbour and wife, Chris; as well as three nieces, two nephews and several cousins.

In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husbands, Lou Candedo and Paul Holbrook.
