Jeanne Thaxton Hawthorne

Jeanne T. Hawthorne, 90, died following a lengthy illness. She was the only child of Jessie Thaxton and Evelyn Baker Thaxton. Jeanne was a longtime resident of Raleigh. She was a loving mother to Jessica and Buddy, and grandmother to Aaron and Alexis. Jeanne grew up without her father, who lost his life on the job in a power line accident when Jeanne was just 9 months old.

She loved N.C. State basketball, swimming, tanning and the beach. She especially enjoyed camping at Myrtle Beach Campground. Jeanne also enjoyed cooking and baking holiday treats. She always gave goodies to her mail carriers and trash collectors. She shared her creativity with her children.

Jeanne worked at Raleigh Community Hospital emergency room for many years as a secretary, and at Fallons Florist designing floral arrangements. In her later years Jeanne worked as a caregiver to the sick and homebound.

She loved animals, and owned many pets including cats and dogs. The family wishes to thank Litchford Falls Healthcare and Rehabilitation for the care Jeanne received the last three years of her life, as well as Prometica AKA Heartland Hospice for taking good care of her. At Litchford, Jeanne also had a special friendship with her roommate Miss Odessa.
