Mr. Jeremy Lee Murfin, 34, died peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, August 15, 2017, at Hock Family Pavilion in Durham, NC, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. He was born in Tamuning, Guam, on March 1, 1983, to Stephen Orval and Teresa Jones Murfin. His father was from Port Huron, Michigan, and his mother is from Tamuning, Guam. While still a young lad, Jeremy accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior, and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC. He attended J. P. Torres Elementary School in Guam until December 1989, when he and his family moved to Willow Spring, NC. Jeremy attended Wake Christian Academy in Raleigh, Fuquay-Varina High School, and Wake Technical Community College. During his junior high and high school years, he was involved in school music and sports programs. During his teenage years, Jeremy worked side by side with his father, grandfather, and brothers in farming and land development, obtaining carpentry and heavy equipment skills. Jeremy held several vehicle and equipment licenses and was a certified welder. Jeremy was employed by Associated Fire Protection of Clayton, NC, and had joined the Design Department in January before being diagnosed with stage four melanoma. His love of the Associated team was deep, and the work they did was his dream vocation. He was grateful for the strong friendships he had and enjoyed many outdoor activities and being part of the area’s barbecue community. He exuberantly participated in several barbecue circuit contests. Jeremy’s love of life, sense of humor, steadfast faith, and adventurous spirit will be greatly missed. He will especially be missed by his beloved dogs; Diesel, Annie, and Lily. Jeremy was preceded in death by his father, Stephen, in 2004. He is survived by his mother, Teresa Murfin Jackson and stepfather, Billy Todd Jackson, of Willow Spring; a brother, Timothy Stephen Murfin, of Willow Spring; a brother, Michael Brandon Murfin and fiancé Marcie Blevins of Raleigh; a nephew, Joshua Stephen Murfin of Willow Spring, a nephew William Stewart Murfin of Willow Spring; a grandmother, Shirley Godwin Jones of Willow Spring, and many close aunts, uncles, and cousins in North Carolina, Georgia, Michigan, Iowa, Missouri, and Guam.
