Jerry Poole

RALEIGH- Jerry Poole, age 72, of Raleigh, NC, died Wednesday evening March 20, 2013 at his residence. He was born in Harnett County, NC and graduated from Coats High School in 1959. After graduation he attended Auto Diesel School in Nashville, TN. He also served in the Navy and was deployed to Vietnam. After a rewarding 20 year career with Southern Bell, he had to retire due to disabilities. In 1995, He received a heart transplant at UNC Hospital which improved his quality of life. His pastime hobbies included fishing and mechanic work. He had passion for fixing anything and would spend hours doing so including many days working at Arvins repair in Garner. Our family always depended on him when they needed repair work around their house. Some of his best times were when he was with family and friends at Surf City, NC, fishing, telling stories and laughing. He always enjoyed it when he and Ray Lewis (best friend) could get away for a weekend of fishing. Following Nascar was one of his great loves where he was able to work alongside the track crew and meet many of the drivers. He was a devoted husband, father and friend and will surely be missed by everyone whose life he touched. He is preceded in death by his parents, David Lentis and Inez Causey Poole; his nephew David Trogdon and brother-in-law Talley Ennis. He is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Judith Whittington Poole; by his daughter, Nichole Scott and husband Tony and grandchildren, Anthony and Austin of Garner; and his sister, Sandra Trogdon of Raleigh. He is survived by his cousin, Rick Poole of Hampstead. He is also survived by his sister-in-laws, Shirley Ennis of Garner and Sharon Eatmon and husband Jollie of Raleigh. Also survived by nieces Jan Fjelsted and husband Paul of Garner; Tamra Ellis and husband Jim of Durham and nephew Steve Ennis and wife Laurie of Virginia Beach; Lentis and Fate Trogdon of Coats. He is also survived by his great nieces, Shannon Dickerson and husband Roger of Raleigh; Heather Benson of Clayton; Carmen Denton and husband Billy of Clayton; Logan Ennis of Virginia Beach; Courtney Beck and husband Jeff of Ocean Isle Beach and great nephew Dalton Ennis of Virginia Beach. In addition he is survived by great-great nephews, Austin and Bryce Dickerson of Raleigh; Noah Benson of Clayton; Jacob and Jayce Denton of Clayton and great -great niece, Camdyn Beck of Ocean Isle Beach. The family will receive family and friends at Bryan Lee Funeral Home of Garner on Friday, March 22, 2013 from 6 to 8 pm and the funeral service will be held Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church of Willow Spring at 3pm. The burial will follow the service at Lakeside Memorial Gardens in Angier.
