Jerry Vincent Healy, Jr.

GARNER, NC - Jerry V. Healy, Jr., 82, of Garner, passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 2023. Jerry was born November 3, 1940 to the late Jeremiah Vincent and Eileen Loomis Healy. A native of Moore County, he grew up in Southern Pines, and attended North Carolina State University, graduating with an Engineering degree.

He was an engineer at Westinghouse in Raleigh for 20 years, then a short-term position in Charlotte led to meeting Willie. They relocated to Raleigh, where he continued his technical career at Utility Translation Systems and Itron.

Jerry enjoyed the beach, beach music, and shag dancing for many years. He walked most days, tracking the distance beginning in the mid 1990’s, meeting his goal of 24,901.6 miles in 2021 – the circumference of the earth.

He is survived by his wife, Willie Baker Healy; son, Jerry V. Healy, III (Bobbi) of Minnesota; daughters, Chris Healy Kennedy of Banner Elk and Denise Healy of Raleigh, NC; stepdaughters, Andrea Rhinehardt of Plano, TX, Dawn Rhinehardt of Elon, NC, and Karen McKnight of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren Sarah Jones (Colby) of Knightdale, NC, Grace Kennedy of Wilmington, NC, Jeremiah Healy (Ayres) of Walkertown, NC, and Josh Healy of Oklahoma; and five great-grandchildren.

A private service will be held to celebrate his life and honor his memory.

The family requests remembrances be made in the form of a donation to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or the Jerry V. Healy, Jr. Electrical Engineering Scholarship Endowment at NCSU.
