Jesse Carr Morris, Jr.

Jesse Carr Morris, Jr., 90, of Cary and formerly of Campbell Road, Raleigh died Tuesday at Woodland Terrace Assisted Living. Jesse was born in Cary on September 8, 1924 to the late Jesse C. Morris, Sr. and Lebbie Mooneyham Morris. He served with the 1st Infantry Division during WWII and was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He retired as Executive VP of the Bank of New York in 1980. His hobby was collecting fine art and pottery. He is survived by nephews, Carlton L. Campbell, Jr. and wife Margaret “Phil”; Wayne Dillard and wife Brenda; nieces, June M. Jeffreys, Amy J. Odom, Jennifer Holland and husband Danny and Jo Ann Griffin and husband Mike; and several great and great-great nieces and nephews and Paul Pennell, friend and caregiver. Countless other friends and Woodland Terrace staff who supported him. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Mrs. Albertine Dillard, Mrs. Josephine “Jo” Jeffreys and Mrs. Elma Campbell. A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 2, 2015 at 1:00PM in the Chapel of Bryan Lee Funeral Home, 831 Wake Forest Road, Raleigh by the Rev. Douglas Long and Rev. Kate Forer. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Entombment will follow in Historic Oakwood Cemetery Mausoleum. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Umstead Park United Church of Christ, 8208 Brownleigh Drive, Raleigh, NC 27617.
