Jessie was known for her ease in conversation with everyone, even total strangers. She possessed a contagious smile and an entertaining sense of humor. Throughout her life, she maintained a sweet and simple demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many, who even now are being changed by her witness of constant nurturing love and faith. Her signature gift of joy, shown through her constant smiling, laughter, and joking antics, will never be forgotten. After graduating from school, Jessie left NC to accept a job in Los Angeles, CA. She eventually returned to NC and married Milton Jay Bissette in a double-ring ceremony with their best friends, Frances & Eunice Peele. Possessing a truly generous spirit, Jessie faithfully cared for family and friends through delicious cooking/baking from scratch as well as sewing and crafting. Her daily life was organized by following a set of simple rules: 1. Never say mean things about anyone; they are poor souls to pray for.2. Read a devotional every morning.3. Complete the Jumble and crossword puzzle.4. Take magazines you’ve already read to your doctors’ offices for others to enjoy. Do not tear off the mailing label because, if someone wants to contact me, that would be nice.5. Play the piano every day and sing if no one is listening!6. Apply the 10-10-10 rule to every annoying problem (or person); consider, Will this matter in 10 hours, 10 days, 10 years - proceed accordingly.7. Most importantly: PAUSE, LISTEN, THINK, PRAY, GO ABOUT YOUR DAY! Jessie peacefully passed away Wednesday evening, January 8, after a three-month health crisis. She is now eternally reunited with her husband and partner in life, Jay Bissette, and is predeceased by two infant sons, her parents, John & Lulu Haskins; sister, Ruth H. Strickland; brothers Paul, John D., Quinton, and Hollis.
