Joan Elaine Buol

Joan Elaine Buol, age 87, from Garner North Carolina, departed earthly life July 11, 2022. Joan was born in Montrose Township, Dane County Wisconsin, on June 27, 1935, and was the oldest child of Glenn and Ethel (Rindy) Showers. She attended a one-room country schoolhouse through 6 grades before her family moved to a dairy farm in Exeter Township near Belleville, Wisconsin where she completed grade school and graduated from Belleville High School in 1953. After earning her B.S. degree in Business Education in 1957 from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, she taught high school business and math courses in Albany, Wisconsin from 1957 to 1960. On July 9, 1960, she was united in marriage to Stanley W. Buol in the Swiss Reform church in Belleville, Wisconsin. The couple lived in Tucson, Arizona from 1960 to 1966 during which a son, Gregory and a daughter Glenda were born. In 1966, the family moved to Garner, North Carolina. Within a few years, the family started attending Saint Andrews United Methodist Church in Garner and Joan soon assumed the task of financial secretary, a position she served for 38 years. In addition, she worked with the church’s Meals on Wheels program delivering meals to shut-ins in the Garner area. She also occasionally accepted part time secretarial/bookkeeping work for local offices. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, brother Glenn Jr. (Bud) Showers, and daughter Glenda. She is survived by her husband Stanley, son Gregory and wife Mary, granddaughter Ashley, brother Tom Showers and wife Mary, sisters-in-law JoAnn Buol Seymour (Jim) and Rita Showers, and nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be made to St. Andrews United Methodist Church, Raleigh, NC.
