ANGIER – Joel Levi Mallett, 77, passed away on Monday at Barbour Court Nursing and Rehab Center in Smithfield. Born in Dempsey, New Mexico, Joel was the son of the late Clyde Mallett and Lois Rachel Mallett. After graduating high school, Joel entered the US Army and was a Vietnam veteran. Following his military career, Joel worked as a long-haul truck driver for many years. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 3rd in the chapel of Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Angier. Burial will follow at Lakeside Memorial Gardens in Angier. The family will receive friends from 10:00–11:00 AM at the funeral home prior to the service. Survivors include his wife, Velator R. Mallett; sons, Neil Phillips and wife, Susie of Roseboro, Rusty Mallett of Florida; sisters, Sue Phelps of Florida, Starlette McKinney of Las Cruces, NM; brother, Ray Mallett and wife, Michelle of Wister, OK; grandchildren, Vander, Avery and Wyatt Phillips of Roseboro. In addition to his parents, Joel was preceded in death by a daughter, Van Michelle King.
