John Benjamin Lipps, Jr.

August 17, 1943 — January 5, 2022

Raleigh- John Benjamin Lipps, Jr., 78, passed away on Wednesday at Pruitt Health in Raleigh, NC. Born in Phoenixville, PA, he was the son of the late John Benjamin Lipps, Sr. and Margaret Elizabeth (Berray) Lipps. John, who was known fondly as Ben to many, grew up in Bradford, PA, and was a 1961 graduate of Bradford Area High School. He enjoyed many activities, his favorites being golf and bowling. He had a passion for music, and was a talented drummer, playing professionally for a Bradford-area cover band for many years. He always enjoyed drawing and painting, having been an artist for Zippo, where he worked for several years, creating artwork for Zippo lighters. He also worked 11 years at Owens-Illinois in quality control, and later in life, learned to run a printing press and became a printer. After moving to Raleigh, NC in 1984 with his family, he became a diehard fan of NC State University. There were many days that you would find him wearing his NC State gear. Most importantly, he was a fan of his kids, grandkids, and all of his family, always enjoying the times he got to spend with them. A celebration of John’s life will be held Friday, February 11, 2022 at 4pm in the chapel of Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner, NC. John is survived by his daughter, Lisa L. Padfield (Brian) and their daughters, Carolyn Padfield, Brooke Padfield, all of Willow Spring, NC; son, Thomas P. Lipps (Cynthia) and their son, Connor Lipps, all of Apex, NC; son, Douglas J. Lipps, Sr. (Sharon) and their sons, Douglas J. Lipps, Jr., Alexander Lipps, all of Clayton, NC; the mother of his children, Carol J. Lipps of Willow Spring, NC; sister, Meme Ransom of Alleghany, NY; brothers, Joseph A. Lipps (Kathy) of Bradford, PA, James M. Lipps (Kay) of Little Elm, TX; sister-in-law, Sue Lipps of Bradford, PA; as well as multiple nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, George L. Lipps. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, act.alz.org in John’s memory.
