John David Baxter

John David Baxter, 81, died peacefully in his home surrounded by his family, Thursday, December 27, 2012. David was a beloved member of his community, but he was known best for his lifelong love for his wife of 53 years, Carole Baxter. He is survived by his wife Carole, children, Ellen Baxter of Pennsylvania, and Johnny Baxter of Raleigh. He leaves four grandchildren; Elle, Gabe, and Luke Baxter, and Melissa Patterson. He is also survived by a brother Sam Baxter, sister Rachel Hecht, and sister-in-law Diane Hollingsworth and her husband Ken, all of Greensboro as well as many nieces and nephews. David graduated from NC State University in electrical engineering, and he was a loyal Wolfpack fan his entire life. He was also a longtime active member of the Presbyterian church. As a Boy Scout leader, he volunteered many years working with young men. During the Korean Was, he served in the Air Force. He loved listening to jazz music. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 2 at 1:30pm at First Presbyterian Church in Raleigh, NC. The family appreciates either flowers or donations to the Friendship Fund at First Presbyterian Church.
