John David Bischof, 55, passed away February 20, 2022. A native of Falls Church, VA, John was born September 12, 1966, to Carl Charles Bischof and the late Winifred Baines Bischof. John is survived by his wife of 23 years, Carrie Bischof; children, Harrison, Ethan, and Anna Bischof; and his beloved Saint Bernards, Charlotte and Coco. John was so proud of his kids. He often spoke of Harrison’s bravery, Ethan’s ability to converse with him as a kindred deep thinker and Anna for her drive and beauty, inside and out. He firmly believed his daughter was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. John was an all-around exceptional father and considered his kids his greatest contribution to the world. Johns surviving siblings are: sisters, Susan Lamore (Mike), Roseann Henke (Tom), and Janet Gray (Ruble); brothers, Jerry (Karen), Dan (Margaret), and Tim (Dayna) Bischof. John felt lucky to have grown up in such a busy and happy home. He often recalled vacations to visit family in Kentucky and waxed poetic about having to sit on top of the hump in the front seat between his Dad and oldest brother while the other brothers rode in the coveted back facing seat of their station wagon. He enjoyed telling his children about the antics that went on inside a home with seven children. When it was only John and his two younger sisters living at home, he played the part of the annoying brother with pride. Urged by his wife, he begged for their forgiveness later in life and resolved the guilt he carried for his brotherly antics. It would be wrong not to mention the box that John’s brothers stuck him in one summer while visiting their grandparents. The phrase “I feel like I’m in the box” was frequently spoken, sometimes even if he was under a heavy blanket. John loved his siblings. He was proud of their success without jealousy but was thankful for the validation he received from them one Christmas when they all agreed that John was the smartest of the seven. John loved his mother and father-in-law, Diana and Paul Bischler, as if they were his own. Diana thought of him as a kind and patient gentleman. Paul often said John was the favorite of all his kids because he never talked back. The same sentiment could be said for his sister-in-law, Nancy Frank and husband, Chuck; brother-in-law, Jeff Bischler and wife, Wendy. John spoke of them with a smile on his face and counted them among his best friends. He was equally thankful, or irritated depending on the day, to Jeff and Wendy for introducing him to his wife, Carrie. He believed Nancy was the most loving, outgoing and fun person he’d ever met, and he loved his very best friend, Chuck, with all his heart. John was the proud uncle to many nieces and nephews. Grant (Blair & daughter Annie) and Kirsten Bischof; Allison Bischof-Sutherland (Logan), Amber Livesay (Kent); Maria and Matthew Lamore; Zachary and Morgan Gray; and his beloved goddaughter, Amy Wrightson (Cody & daughter Evelyn) and godson, Andrew Lamore. On the Bischler side of the family he adored his nieces, Paige Bischler and Allison Frank and his nephews Brett Bischler and Clayton (Colleen) Frank. John was the Executive Director ISO North America Small Medium Business at Lenovo. He was beloved by his peers and his team. The friendships he developed through work were special to him, and he felt lucky to have been surrounded every day with such sharp knowledge and work ethic. He also felt honored when, on many occasions, he was referred to as an analytical genius. John was an avid Carolina Panthers and Carolina Hurricanes fan and an overall sports fanatic. His number one team was the Virginia Tech Hokies. He and his siblings all graduated from Virginia Tech and are proud Hokies to the core. John enjoyed golfing, and the older he got the more he wondered what happened to his golf swing. John was a true genius with the ability to retain useless information as well as everything he ever read in a book. Christmas was his favorite time of year. He would spend hours in front of the TV watching all of the classic 1960’s puppet Christmas specials and the movie A Christmas Story on repeat. The happiness they brought him was contagious. Whatever John loved, he loved big. His wife, his children, his dogs, the Virginia Tech Hokies, frozen Cokes, a good steak, music. We always said, if it was butchered, John ate it. If it grew in the ground, not so much. And while his taste in food didn’t vary, his taste in music was quite eclectic. Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, Dire Straits, REM, Neil Young, John Denver and The Bangles, just to name a few. Full confession – it was really just Susanna Hoff's eyes from The Bangles that were scattered throughout his dreams. John suffered from Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD). His mother as well as four of the siblings, including John, are transplant recipients. John received his kidney from Carrie in 2012, and they were considered medically a perfect match. When John tested positive for Covid, his transplanted kidney was the first thing attacked. From there Covid settled in his lungs, and he was unable to recover. Every patient on the Covid side of the ICU when John was there was a transplant recipient. John did everything right and was still taken from us. If John were here, he would ask everyone to go out today and get your vaccine. By doing so you are literally saving the life of people like him who have little to no chance of surviving if they are exposed to this horrible disease. Memorial contributions may be made to the at https://pkdcure.org/give/ ~77~ There will be a celebration of John's life planned. Date, time & location are to be determined.
