John Derek Barnes

FUQUAY­-VARINA  John Derek Barnes, 51, passed away Saturday at Rex Hospital. A native of Harnett County, he was the son of Harold and Linda Barnes. He was preceded in death by sons, Corey and Craig Barnes; grandparents, Tillman and Ruby Butts, as well as Elmond and Lula Barnes. Derek is survived by his three children, Cory Barnes of Clayton, Heather Barnes of Wilmington, and Eric Barnes of Greenville; brother, Cale Barnes of Angier and sister, Gwen Miller of Coats. He had the joy of one niece and four nephews. A Visitation will be held at Bryan-­Lee Funeral Home, Angier on Tuesday from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The Funeral will also be held at Bryan-­Lee, Angier at 1:00 PM on Wednesday. Pastor Kemp Young will officiate. Burial will follow at Lakeside Memorial Gardens, Angier. The family greatly appreciates the staff and care­givers of Rex Hospital who filled Derek’s last few weeks with affection and watchful care.
