John Frank Kornegay, Jr., 92, died Friday at Greenleaf Assisted Living in Lillington. He retired from Westinghouse in Raleigh in 1984. A US Army veteran, he served in WW II and was a former POW. John was very devoted to his country as well as a man of God who shared his testimony with everyone. Surviving are his daughter, Velma Ann Crocker and husband, Ronnie Bass of Lillington; granddaughters, Barbara Bass of Lillington and Lee Lora Mae Crocker of Fuquay Varina; grandson, Ricky Bass of Lillington; great-granddaughter, Katie Isabelle Bass of Lillington; stepdaughter, Leonor Powell and husband Charles of Willow Spring; stepson, Alan Ruedo, Sr. and wife Sandra of Durham; 4 step grandchildren and 8 step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Zelma Kornegay and infant daughter, Anna Maria Kornegay. Graveside service will be 2:00 PM Thursday August 31, 2017 at Raleigh Memorial Park with Military Honors.
