John Franklin Frank Weedon, Jr. passed away Monday September 2, 2013, advancing from his earthly bounds to the place where red always wins, officials always make the right calls and he and his beloved wife Janice can always go to the same Sunday morning service. He was 82. Weedon was born May 11, 1931, in Washington, D.C., and was a 1954 graduate of the University of Maryland with a degree in journalism. He spent two years as the sports information director at Lehigh University and three years in the U.S. Army as a European counter-intelligence officer, stationed in Stuttgart, Germany. He came to NC State on June 1, 1960, and established deep roots in Raleigh in a profession that is notorious for its nomadic nature. He officially retired as an athletics department administrator in 1996. He is survived by nephew, Ronald Weedon of Florida; nieces, Mary Yates of Maryland and Angela Green of Virginia, as well as several nieces and nephews and the 1958 Royal typewriter that he used to promote and write about Wolfpack athletics. Frank was preceded in death by Janice Bunn Nixon Weedon, who died on Dec. 30, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Friday at West Raleigh Presbyterian Church with burial following at Raleigh Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm on Thursday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 831 Wake Forest Road, Raleigh, NC.
