RALEIGH - John Joseph Ledo died on September 20, 2021 after a long period of declining health. A funeral service will be held at Sacred Heart Church at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 15, 2021. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Plymouth, Massachusetts at a later date. John was raised in Plymouth, Massachusetts, graduating from Plymouth High School in 1954, and receiving BA degrees from the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and Tufts University in 1958. John also received an MS degree from Bridgewater State College and completed 30 additional credits thereafter. A talented artist, John taught art in Massachusetts and Vermont primary and secondary schools, and later became an educational administrator. He also served on the Fair Haven High School Board of Directors for 25 years. In his later years, John became an insurance agent for Bankers Life and Casualty Company, earning several trips as a top performer and attaining the status of President’s Club Member. John spent his retirement years enjoying time with his friends and family, especially at his cottage on Prince Edward Island, Canada. John also enjoyed painting, particularly lighthouses, and fishing (even starting a business hand-tying flies called Tattertails). John is survived by his wife of 60 years, Kathleen (née Shea); son David (wife Beate) of Nusbaum, Germany; son Edward (wife LeAnne) of Danville, Vermont; daughter Michele (partner Laura) of Raleigh, North Carolina; and son Robert (wife Kathryn) of St. Paul, Minnesota. John is also survived by his grandchildren Nicholas, Jessica, Philipp, Lukas, Christopher, Jonas, Patrick, John and Joseph. In addition, John is survived by his sister Bernadette Gayton of Yorktown Heights, New York. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his memory to the Eastern North Carolina Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association at 5171 Glenwood Avenue, Suite 101, Raleigh, NC 27612 or Transitions LifeCare at 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, North Carolina 27607.
