Clayton – John Joseph Zdan, 94, passed away Thursday, January 27, 2022. He was born August 4, 1927 in Utica, NY, to the late Mytro (Jacob) Zdan and Anna Holoczynska Zdan. He was the youngest of seven children. He graduated in June 1945 from Thomas R. Proctor High School. He married his wife Victoria Sophia Pohorecki in 1949 at the Holy Trinity Church in Utica, NY. They were married for 56 years before her passing. John served in the US Navy and was a World War II Veteran. John was a member of the American Legion – Leonard Moore Post #71. He served as an usher at St. Mary’s Mother of Church in Garner, NC. He worked at Chicago Pneumatic as a Computer Programmer Analyst for 40 years before his retirement. John is survived by a daughter, Christine M. Zdan Smith and her husband, Joe; grandchildren Dawn M. Stokes and Shawn M. VanSteen (Tracy); great-grandchildren Jacob Kramer Stokes, Caroline Sophia Stokes, Evan Michael VanSteen, Landon David VanSteen. In addition to his wife, John was preceded in death by his parents, Mytro (Jacob) Zdan and Anna Holoczynska Zdan. His brothers, Stanley, Joseph, Frank, Louis, and Theodore and his sister, Helen. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at 11am, at Saint Mary’s Mother of the Church, in Garner, NC, with visitation prior from 10am – 10:45am. The family would like to express their appreciation to Transitions LifeCare and especially to Alison and Ann.
