John Lewie Holley, Jr, 60, passed away peacefully in his home on March 20, 2017. John was a graduate of Enloe High School in Raleigh, North Carolina and received his civil engineering degree from NC State University. He served as a Professional Engineer for the NC Department of Environmental Quality for 39 years. John was an active member of First Baptist Church in Raleigh where he shared his talent and love of music in various venues such as singing in the adult choir, singing with the youth choir and playing his guitar. John lived with a servant’s heart. He volunteered at the ARC shelter, the Interfaith Hospitality Network, and sang with the State Employees MLK Choir for many years. John is survived by his wife of nineteen years, Dorothy Talley Holley; his son, John Lewie Holley, III; daughter, Elaine Frances Holley; daughter, Amanda Holley Johnson and her husband Ryan; grandchildren, Marshall and Hannah Johnson; brother, Kenny Holley and his wife April and numerous extended family members including his four brothers-in-law - Bob, Charles, Mike and Rick Talley. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Lewie Holley, Sr. and Carolyn Orr Holley. John was a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend who will be greatly missed. He remains an inspiration to all who loved him. The family will receive family and friends at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home on Wake Forest Road on Thursday, March 23, 2017 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The funeral service will be at First Baptist Church of Raleigh at 11:00am on Friday, March 24, 2017, followed by burial at Montlawn. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to First Baptist Church Raleigh Dan Day Mission Fund.
