DURHAM, N.C. — John Lewis Bullock, 88, was called home by Christ on Tuesday, August 15 2023.
There will be a visitation starting at 12:30 pm with a funeral service following at 2:00 pm on Saturday, August 19th, 2023, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Durham.
Mr. Bullock was born in Angier, North Carolina and was a graduate of Angier High School. Following high school, John was a volunteer at the Angier Fire Department for 7 years, then joined the National Guard and served for 8 years. He previously worked at Amoco Oil Company, Central Carolina Farmers, and retired from Erwin Oil Company with 28 years of service. After retirement, John continued to work part-time at Holmes Oil Company for several years.
Parkwood Fire Department held a special place in John’s heart. He was a part of this wonderful community for 41 years, where he served on the Board of Directors for 35 years. John had a great love for the volunteer fire department. He volunteered, trained, taught rescue specialists, and participated in multiple chicken and pork barbecues. He wants all of his fellow firefighter brothers and sisters to know he loves you, appreciates you, and is very glad he was able to work along side of all of you.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Noel Dwight Bullock and Ellen Victoria Bullock; sister, Dorris Mae Bullock; and son, Kimmy Lewis Bullock.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Shirley Bullock; son, Mike Bullock (Rhonda); daughter, Sheilah Lowans (Randy); grandchildren, Michael Bullock (Becky), Abi Lowans, Gracie Lowans; great-grandchild, Madalynn Bullock; and brothers, Jerry Bullock and Ricky Bullock (Shirley).
Flowers are welcome and may be sent to Bryan-Lee Funeral Home of Raleigh, and memorials may be made to Hock Family Pavilion and/or Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
