John O. Wilson

June 28, 1938 — September 16, 2011

Garner - Long time Garner resident and West Virginia native, John O. Wilson, 73, died Friday, September 16, 2011 at RexHospital due to complications from diabetes and congestive heart failure. The youngest of five children of the late Walter Wynn Wilson, Sr. and Grace Bell Warden Wilson, John was born June 28, 1938 in Montcalm, West Virginia and raised in Bluefield, West Virginia. John was an active and beloved member of Garner Advent Christian Church in Garner. John was known for his contagious sense of humor, his love for Christ, his wife, his family, friends and church family. He was a regular Sunday morning fixture in the lobby of the church, seated in a winged-back chair passing fruit-stripe gum to all the children and sometimes getting a hug as they left the sanctuary. John was a cornerstone in two Garner neighborhoods where he lived with his wife for 48 years. As a husband and father raising a young family, John was a positive, Christian role model of faithfulness and devotion to his family and the neighbors who lived there. In his later years, he was a treasured site of neighbors who drove by as he was seated on the front porch in his rocking chair waving and talking with people as they came by. John is survived by his wife, Lacelle Stanley Wilson of Garner; children Jeff (and wife Carol) Wilson of Garner, Debbie Wilson of Raleigh, and Tim (and wife Susan) Wilson of Zebulon; five cherished grandchildren; Forrest Wilson, Logan Pope, Meredith Wilson, Autumn Wilson and Lillie Wilson. Brothers, Walter Wynn Wilson, Jr., (wife Millie) of Virginia, William Lewis Wilson (wife Twila) of Pennsylvania. Many beloved nieces and nephews. Proceeded in death by his parents, sister Mary Brunner Wilson and sister Lillie Wilson Overheim. The family will receive visitors at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Garner from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Sunday night, September 18, 2011. The funeral service will be held Monday, September 19, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Garner Advent Christian Church, 1120 Vandora Springs Road, Garner. Burial will be at RightHandyJohnsonCemetery, Four Oaks. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made in Johns name to Garner Advent Christian Church, or CampDixie at 373 W. Bladen Union Church Road, Fayetteville, NC. 28306.
