John R. Callery

Raleigh - John R. Callery, 91, died peacefully in his home on Wednesday, February 27, 2013.A veteran of World War II, Mr. Callery served with the U.S. Army Signal Corps in North Africa and Italy and was a life member of the American Legion.Mr. Callery was a native of Illinois and the son of Raymond P. Callery and Mary Agnes Welsh.He married Beatrice Frances May in Superior, Wisconsin, on December 31, 1947, in Superior, Wisconsin; she pre-deceased John in 2008.Together they moved to Raleigh in 1973.John is survived by three daughters, Bea Callery of Raleigh, Mary Callery of Greenville, and Julie Callery Walczak (Walt) of Brooklyn Park, MN; one son, John M. Callery of Tucson, AZ; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and, twelve nieces and nephews.Also remaining are his sister Winifred Sipchen (Jim) and sister-in-law Anne Callery.In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother Robert F. Callery and sister Mary Alice Callery Thomas.A visitation will be held Saturday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 831 Wake Forest Road, Raleigh, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. with rosary at 8:00 p.m.The funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes parish in Raleigh, Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
