John Robin Baucom, Jr.

Raleigh – John Robin Baucom, Jr., a Wake County native, died Monday, August 10, 2015. John Robin was born June 21, 1928 to the late Camilla Pittard Baucom and J. Robin Baucom, Sr. John faced his long battle with Parkinson’s with courage, determination and wry humor just as he lived his entire life. After graduating from Garner High School, he served abroad in the U.S. Army Air Corps. After his discharge, John Robin returned to Wake County and married Marie Averitt, of Clayton, NC. John Robin graduated from N.C. State University with a degree in Animal Husbandry which he utilized in the management of their dairy-tobacco farm located between Raleigh and Auburn. The Baucoms converted their farmland into a popular 18-hole public golf course, Eagle Crest Golf Course and Driving Range where many loyal customers became life-long friends. Mr. Baucom was a mentor to the many young people that worked at Eagle Crest even after the course closed in 2003. Mr. Baucom was a lifelong member of the Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Auburn, where he constantly served in many varied positions such as Chairman of the Deacons, Building Committee member, Sunday School superintendent and teacher, and member of several pastoral search committees. He was known for his love, commitment, and dedication to the ministry and service of the church. John Robin is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marie Baucom; daughters, Deborah Baucom Carpenter (Van) of Raleigh and Rebecca Baucom Stephenson of Garner, and son, John Robin Baucom, III (Cindy) of Raleigh. He is also survived by all of his siblings: Margaret Baucom Talton, Julian Baucom (Marlene), Clifton Baucom (Heidi), and William Baucom all of Raleigh and Elizabeth Baucom Morgan (George) of Chapel Hill. He will be missed by his grandchildren: Adam Carpenter of Los Angeles, Cami Baucom Pippin (Sterling) of Farmville, NC, and Jared Carpenter, Duncan Stephenson, Parker Baucom, Joel Stephenson, Austin Baucom and Zane Carpenter, all of Raleigh. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 12th, at Bryan~Lee Funeral Home, 1200 Benson Road, Garner, NC 27529. The service to celebrate the life of John Robin Baucom, Jr. will be held at 11:00 am Thursday at Mount Moriah Baptist Church, 3000 East Garner Road, Raleigh, NC 27610, with the Reverends Michael Tolar and Benny Green officiating. Graveside services with Military Honors will take place immediately afterwards in the adjoining church cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the Building Fund at Mount Moriah Baptist Church in lieu of flowers. www.mountmoriahbaptist.net
