John Stewart Pope died at home on January 26, 2017, surrounded by family. He was Raleigh born on September 19, 1985 to his very proud parents, Stewart and Arlene Pope. He received an excellent Wake County Public School education and graduated from Millbrook HS in 2003. After high school, he attended UNC in Chapel Hill and graduated with a degree in Journalism in 2007. He was an avid Tarheel and played in the marching band and pep band all four years in college. He began working at Disability Determination Services in 2009 and was promoted to the Professional Relations Office in 2014, a job he dearly loved. In 2008 he met Clint Dean and they were married on January 5, 2015 and it was a joyous occasion for all of us who were there to witness. Besides Clint and his parents, he is survived by his beloved sister, Carey Pope, her husband, John Carr, and their son, Linus. He is also survived by his many aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws and his fur babies, Shirley and Elise. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Edenton Street UMC, 228 W, Edenton Street, Raleigh. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (http://www.jdrf.org/), The Human Rights Campaign (http://www.hrc.org/), The SPCA of Wake County (http://spcawake.org/) or Paws of the Heart (http://www.paws-of-the-heart.org/). We would like to thank all the friends and family who volunteered their time to care for Johnny, the staff at WakeMed and Transitions LifeCare. He left us far too soon but he made the most of his 31 years. Johnny loved UNC, the beach, all genres of music from Holst to Lady Gaga, parties, The Simpson’s (the early years), Bob’s Burgers, Jeopardy, bourbon, his friends and family but most of all, Clint.
