GARNER-John W. Myers, Jr. (Bill), 85, passed away peacefully on March 9th 2016, at home in Greensboro, Maryland. Born November 29, 1930 in Raleigh NC, Mr. Myers (or Bill as he was called) was the son of the late John W. Myers, Sr. and Narosa Richardson Myers. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as a fireman, including tours of duty in Germany and Viet Nam. He retired as a Staff Sergeant after 20 years of service. Following that he worked at A.M. Latham Co., and H & M Refrigeration and Air Conditioning in Raleigh. He loved tending to his garden, reading about history, and especially liked talking about politics. Bill had many pets over the years and loved all of them, especially little Gracie who would ride in a basket on his bicycle. At other times, she would sit outside with him - her in her little lawn chair and him right beside her in his big one. He is survived by his wife, Nancy of Greensboro, Maryland, daughter Deborah Speicher of DeFuniak Springs, Fl.; Stepchildren Yvonne Scott of Ridgely MD and Kelly Fazenbaker and husband Chris, Greensboro, MD, Raymond Rutherford and wife Brenda , Ponce De Leon, Fl, Tony Rutherford and wife Sheri, DeFuniak Springs, Fl; step-son, Ronald Scott, Jr. and wife, Heather of New Lisbon WI; one brother, Jimmy Myers and wife Shirley, Raleigh NC; three sisters, Janice Lott, Garner NC, Joyce Albin, Colorado Springs, CO and Margaret Van Buren and husband Bill, Wallagrass ME. Grandchildren Sarah, Ben, Amanda, Whitney, Hannah, Danny, Amber, and Jason. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Dan and Robert (Bobby) Myers. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:00 pm Wednesday, followed by the service at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner, NC at 1:00 pm. Interment will be at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, highway 50, Garner. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions in his memory to Church of the Brethren, 110 Park Ave., Ridgely MD 21660 or Compass Regional Hospice, 225 Comet Dr., Centreville MD 21617.
