BENSON- John Warren Emory, Jr., 76, of McGee’s Crossroads, Johnston County, NC, passed away Monday after a seven month battle with lung cancer. He was preceded in death by his father, John Warren Emory, Sr. and his mother, Alice Cheek Emory. John retired from a career in manufacturing and Information Technology (Systems) and at one time owned his own company. He served in the Air Force and was a Vietnam veteran. His passion was auto racing, especially NASCAR. When John developed a personal relationship with Christ 13 years ago, his church family became all important as well as his own family. John is survived by his wife of 25 years, Danise Hamilton Emory; his daughter, Michelle Emory Bailey (Randy); step-son, Kevin Wayne Rogerson (Laura); and step-daughter, Lea Rogerson Cosentino (Steve); grandchildren, Clay Bailey, Luke Bailey, Caleb Rogerson, Kaitlyn Rogerson, Liv Cosentino, and Cooper Cosentino. Funeral service will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, June 26th at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church with Rev. Leonard Rex officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 9:45 -10:45 am prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mt. Zion UMC Building Fund, 15772 NC 50, Garner, NC 27529 or SECU Hospice House of Johnston Co., 426 Hospital Rd., Smithfield, NC 27577.
