John Wilbur Sharp (Bill) a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother passed away Sunday, May 3, 2015 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina with loved ones by his side. Bill was born on January 23, 1932 in Greensboro, North Carolina to the late Edward Wilbur and Louise Amole Sharp. He grew up attending schools in Greensboro and being a True Tarheel, graduated from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He served in the military for two years and then worked for several federal government agencies as an accountant and auditor until his retirement in 1988. After his retirement he became very active as a volunteer in several local organizations, his favorite being a Rex Hospital Same Day Surgery patient attendant. Bill was very involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren, from attending ballet recitals, numerous choral concerts, and all types of sports. As well, he was very active in his church and his daily life was lived by his faith. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Betty Rhodes Sharp; daughter Sarah Lynn Sharp of Raleigh, daughter Leigh Sharp Ammons and her husband David W. Ammons of Raleigh, and daughter Robin Sharp Caddell and her husband Kyle D. Caddell of Charlotte, North Carolina. “Pa Bill” was very proud of his five beautiful grandchildren: Beth and Lauren Ammons of Raleigh and Keenan, Emma, and Grace Caddell of Charlotte, North Carolina. He is also survived by his 2 brothers, Charlie Sharp and his wife Betty of Summerfield, Florida and David Sharp and his wife Nancy of Greensboro, North Carolina and many nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of 3 West at Rex Hospital for their loving care. A memorial service will be held at North Raleigh United Methodist Church at 8501 Honeycutt Road in Raleigh on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at 3 p.m. Bill’s family invites you to join them in the fellowship hall immediately following the service.
