Johnny Lee Smith

GARNER - Johnny Lee Smith, 69, entered the gates of heaven on Sunday at Duke University Medical Center, surrounded by his devoted and loving family. Johnny was the son of Inez Ward Smith and the late Lewis E. Smith of Garner and the son-in-law of the late Lawrence and Dolly Hargis. Johnny was an avid sports enthusiast, but more importantly, he was a devoted Christian who was a holy man in thought, word and deed. He spent every day of his life as an active witness for Christ, sharing his love with everyone to whom he came in contact. Johnny was always smiling, cheerful and willing to help anyone in need. His legacy of faith and love will live on in and through the many, many people he witnessed to throughout his lifetime. His wife, Pansy was the rock, and together they cared for and nurtured each other, their children and grandchildren building a close loving family. His grandchildren were the light of his life. Funeral Services will be 10:30 AM Friday, January 31, 2014 at Shiloh Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens. He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Pansy Smith; mother, Inez Ward Smith of Garner; sons, Kenny Smith and wife, Katrina of Clayton, Randy Smith and wife, Allison of Garner; brothers, Richard Smith and wife, Laura of Clayton and Dennis Smith of Garner; grandchildren, Brittany Duncan and husband, Brian, Dawson and Dylan Smith; great-grandchildren, Cameron, Hunter and Kail Duncan.
