Jonathan Carl Lucas, 49, passed away peacefully at home on January 20, 2024 after a courageous 3 year battle with ALS/Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
Jonathan was raised in Angier, NC and graduated from Harnett Central High School in 1992. He lettered in baseball, basketball, cross country, and golf. He went on to attend Barton College in Wilson, NC where he played on the golf team and graduated with a BS in Finance in 1996. Jonathan’s career was mainly in the automobile business, more specifically fleet and commercial vehicle sales. He worked for Sir Walter Chevrolet in Raleigh for many years, followed by many years of owning his own fleet and commercial pre-owned vehicle dealership.
Jonathan is survived by his wife of 22 years, Melinda Mitchiner Lucas, and son Jaxon Carl Lucas of Garner, NC. He is also survived by his parents, Donnie and Cindy Hunter of Angier, NC; siblings Benjamin (Cantina) Lucas of Sanford, NC and their children Macie and Maggie; Tiffany Baker of Oak Island, NC and her children Faith and Jace; and Kyle (Karrie) Christian of Oklahoma City, OK and their children Kinsley and Kooper. Jonathan was preceded in death by his father, Danny Carl Lucas of Erwin, NC; grandparents Leo and Hazeleen Pleasant of Angier, NC; JC and Betty Lucas of Erwin, NC; and Ruben and Joan Hunter of Oklahoma City, OK.
Jonathan enjoyed vacationing at the beach and playing golf, however his biggest hobby and passion was coaching and mentoring Jaxon over the years in basketball, football, and especially baseball. He loved traveling to watch him play, and he was a huge influence in his training and success over the years. Jonathan also had a big influence on other youth players in the area as a coach and mentor. Jonathan was smart, witty, athletic, honorable, and selfless. He will be greatly missed by all.
