Jordan Akers

April 20, 1990 — July 30, 2018

Weaverville - Jordan Gregory Akers passed from this life in the evening of July 30th. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 3:00 PM at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Raleigh. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. Jordan was born on April 20, 1990 in Atlanta, Georgia to Kimberly Akers. He was the third of her three children. Jordan was a kind and outgoing young man. He adored his older brother Cameron and sister Jada and sought to be around them as much as possible. He was the family comedian and was always good for a laugh. always confident, he never shied away from a challenge. He was an awesome athlete who starred in multiple sports. Fiercely protective, he never allowed for anyone to bully or hurt anyone. He never met a stranger and was willing to give the shirt off of his back in support of someone in need. Jordan was passionate about people and sought to be a friend whenever and wherever he could. He made friends easily and wanted to see everyone around him succeed. He volunteered his time for a number of causes including his local homeless shelters and Habitat for Humanity. There he went above and beyond to help people in any way that he could even coming out of his own pocket for the betterment of others. Simply put, Jordan sought to spread peace and love to all he came in contact with. Never judgmental, his kind spirit lifted many in need of emotional healing. He never did understand that he was a special soul and that most people were not like him; he was giving to a fault. Working in the hospitality industry, he served as the manager of a prominent bed and breakfast in Ashville, North Carolina. He routinely sought to improve his client’s experiences in any way that he could in the pursuit of their happiness and satisfaction. The hugs and words of appreciation he often received after these moments served as a pleasant reminder that his work and his efforts were doing good in this world where it is often so sorely needed. It has been said that to have a friend is to have one of the sweetest and dearest gifts that life can bring. Jordan sought to be that to those around him and many would agree that he was just that. While he wasn’t without his flaws, his dedication to his fellow man serves as an honorable example of what true friendship is and can be. Jordan was preceded in death by his brother Cameron and grandfather Melvin Akers. He is survived by his mother Kim and his sister Jada (Steven); and a host of cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.
