Joseph David Devine Jr., 78 was born in Rocky Mt., NC to the late Joseph D. and Cecelia Higgs Devine. He was a resident of Raleigh for 76 years. David was also predeceased by his brother, James F. Devine, Sr., and his Aunt and Uncle, Gertrude and Frank Murphy of Greensboro, NC. David was a graduate of Cathedral Latin High School. He was a graduate of NC State University with a BS and Masters in Horticulture. He taught High School Mathematics and Horticulture. David went on to earn his Doctorate of Pharmacy at UNC Chapel Hill. His career spanned as hospital Pharmacist at UNC and many years that followed as Pharmacist with the State of NC. David was a lifelong NC State University Wolfpack fan and was a member of the Wake Democratic Men’s Club. He maintained a beautiful greenhouse and grape arbor for many years. He loved plants, animals, music, theater and the arts. Following his retirement, he served as an accredited judge with the American Orchid Society. He was recognized with accolades and awards. David enjoyed many years of travel around the world, always learning and further expanding his education. He is survived by his Nephew, James F. Devine, Jr., Niece, Angela Devine Davis (husband, Charles Edward Davis), Great Nephew, Christian Edward Davis, Sister-In-Laws, Sarah Dunford Devine and Deborah Radford Devine all of Raleigh. Extended family Diane Dunford Brunot and Martha Newsome Davis. Family and friends will celebrate David’s life at a later date given COVID. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wake County SPCA and/or NC State University’s JC Raulston Arboretum Botanical Garden. A service of Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Raleigh.
