HILLSBOROUGH – Joseph (Joe) Furman Andrews, Jr., 92, went to be with the Lord on Saturday. He was born in northern Harnett County to parents Joseph Furman Andrews, Sr. and Lillian Reeves Andrews.
He graduated from LaFayette High School, then attended Campbell College, attaining an associate’s degree in business, where he met the love of his life, Annie, who would become his wife of 58 years. He then attended Catawba College in Salisbury, NC, achieving a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He also served his country in the Army at Fort Carson in Colorado and then in the U. S. National Guard.
He and Annie Lee made their home in Chalybeate Springs and Joe managed the family farm, and in addition, he worked for over 20 years as a sales manager for a regional construction materials company. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing with his son, Lewis, and shooting sporting clays with his longtime friend, Elwood Stephens (deceased).
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, October 24th at Chalybeate Springs Baptist Church Cemetery at 2:00 pm. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so on Monday, October 23rd from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Angier.
He is survived by his son, Lewis Andrews and daughter-in-law Melinda Ann Andrews of Hillsborough; sister, Sue Andrews Sears and husband Jerry; and grandchildren, Jay Canady of Raleigh, Jared Canady of Franklin, MA; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Annie Lee Andrews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chalybeate Springs Baptist Church or to UNC Hospice.
