Joseph Leo Ennis

Joseph Leo Ennis, 84 of Apex, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2024, in his home, surrounded by his family. He was born October 8, 1939, to the late Leo and Virginia Pulley Ennis, and is also preceded in death by his sister, Claudia Elizebeth Ennis and his grandson, William Joseph Ennis.

Joseph grew up in Wake County and faithfully attended Catawba Springs Christian Church all his life. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Yvonne Gower Ennis; daughter, Janice Ennis Kelly-Reid (Steve Reid), and twin sons Jerry Lynn Ennis (Gina) and Terry Lane Ennis; sister Cynthia Ennis Lawrence (Ronald); grandchildren April Lynn Ennis, Lindsay Kelly Weaver (Jonathan), Joseph Taylor Kelly (fiancé JoAnn), step-grandson Kevin Ryan Wilson; great-grandchildren Jacob, Jacquelin, Kinsley, Jaycee, Paityn, Macey; and great-great-grandson Dillon, along with many nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends.

He graduated from Garner Senior High School in 1957. He began farming with his parents when he was 12 years old, eventually buying the adjacent farm in 1960. He continued farming until lymphoma rendered him unable to farm in 2017. He was honorably discharged from the Army National Guard after completing eight years of service, from 1957 to 1965. For 38 years, he was an Independent Carrier of the News and Observer, retiring June 30, 1996.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Catawba Springs Christian Church on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at 3:00 PM with a graveside service to follow. Family will receive friends and guests prior to the service from 1:30 - 2:45 PM.
