Joseph Raymond Kertis

Joseph Raymond Kertis, “Joe”, 93, of Raleigh, NC, passed away on December 4 th , 2022, peacefully, in his

sleep.

He was born in Whiting, IN on December 23, 1928, the son of the late John Kertis \and Mary Kuffa. He

was the youngest of eight children. He is preceded in death by siblings, Mary, Margaret, Ann, Pauline,

John, Andrew and William. He is also preceded in death by his Wife Ruth Christine, baby son, and

Claudia Kertis.

He is survived by his only daughter Andrea Ruth (Charles), and his three grandchildren Julia, (IL), John,

(CO), and Joseph Kreidl, (IL). He also has many nieces and nephews.

He went to Whiting High School in Whiting, IN, and was in the U.S. Army, as a Medic. and was honorably

discharged in 1951. He attended Purdue University, and then worked at Edward Valves as a quality

control engineer. He met Ruth Christine Holtz and they were married in 1955, and had two children,

Mark, who passed away at birth, and Andrea Ruth. Ruth Christine passed away in 1961.

Joe transferred to Raleigh, NC in 1964. He retired from Rockwell International, Inc. after 35years with

the company. He married Claudia Evangelist in 1999. She preceded him in death in 2017.

He enjoyed golfing, a big passion for him, traveling, and also seeing his daughter Andrea, and his three

grandchildren. He was also a Civil War enthusiast.

At Joe’s request, there will be no formal memorial service. A private family service will be arranged. In

lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to the American Heart Association.
