Rev. Joseph (Joe) K. Bostick, Sr., 89, went home to be with his Lord on August 26, 2011. Joe was born on July 4, 1922, in Greensboro, NC.His parents were Percy L. Bostick, Sr. and Bonnie Auman Bostick.His mom passed away when Joe was 7 years old.The Bosticks moved to Raleigh when Joe was 13, along with his step-mother, Alice Blanchard Bostick.Also, preceding him in death were his two brothers Percy Bostick and Ed Bostick, and sister, Ann Sargeant. Joe Bostick graduated from Broughton HS in Raleigh.During his first year of college at NC State, he felt the call to the ministry and then transferred to High Point College.After graduating, he continued studies at Duke Divinity School.For 42 years, Rev. Bostick faithfully served the Lord as preacher of the Gospel and pastor to his congregations in United Methodist Churches in eastern NC.He had the gift of remembering his church members names, where they lived, and something significant about each one.The churches heserved were Kenly, Buckhorn, Lucama, Seaboard, Ellerbe (5 charges), Webb Ave. (Burlington), Wesley Memorial (Wilmington), Mt. Olive, Siler City, Lyon Memorial (Fayetteville), Sylvan (Durham), Rose Hill, Carthage, and Knightdale.After retiring, he and his wife, Julia, moved to Raleigh and re-joined Edenton St. Methodist.Joe continued ministry in his church by ushering, teaching Sunday school, helping serve communion, and occasionally visiting the sick.Additionally, during his retirement years, Joe started a locksmith business and was the locksmith at Meredith College for 10 years. Joe Bostick was a family man and devoted husband, and had been married to Julia for 66 years.For the past six years they have lived at Magnolia Glen on Creedmoor Road.Some of the things that gave Joe a lot of joy were telling and hearing silly jokes and funny stories, attending concerts, listening to Sousa marches, esp. Stars and Stripes Forever, singing the old hymns, and cheering on the Duke Blue Devils.Joes life-long hobby was wood-working.He spent many hours in his shop working on small building projects and fixing things. Most of all, Joe Bostick was a wonderful person and will be missed by his family who loved him and all who were touched by his life.He was good to people and fun to be around.He is survived by his wife, Julia Geiger Bostick of Raleigh, daughter, Bonnie Bostick Walker of Raleigh, and son, J. Kent Bostick of Raleigh.Joe was Grandpa to Ian Philip Walker and his wife Ashley Walker of Raleigh, and Hannah Walker Gregory and her husband Gerald Gregory of Statesville, NC.God blessed the family with three Great-grandchildren: Jude Walker of Raleigh, Kylie and Walker Gregory of Statesville, NC.Also, Uncle Joe has four nieces and four nephews, who survive him.The family is thankful for the care given to both Joe and Julia by their caregiver, Janice Washington and the staff at Magnolia Glen.We are deeply appreciative of the compassionate care given to Joe Bostick by the staff at Rex Hospital and the palliative care services at Rex during the last six days of his life.The family will receive friends on Friday evening, Sept. 2, 6:00 - 8:00 pm, at Bryan Lee Funeral Home, 831 Wake Forest Rd., Raleigh, NC (919) 832-8225.The funeral service to celebrate Rev. Joe Bosticks life will be Sat., Sept. 3, 11:00 am, at Edenton St. United Methodist Church, 228 W. Edenton St., Raleigh, NC.There will be a private family burial at Oakwood Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Edenton Street United Methodist Church or Palliative Care Services, Rex Hospital, 4420 Lake Boone Trail, Raleigh, NC 27607.
