Joseph Yates Whitley

GARNER - Joseph Yates Whitley, 78 "The Old Sign Man" of 6309 Mal Weathers Rd, Raleigh died May 21st, 2021. Yates was a native of Raleigh and a lifelong resident of Wake County. He was the owner and operator of Best Signs & Service Company in Garner, NC for more than 40 years. He was an active and faithful member of his church Broken Wing Fellowship. He is survived by his faithful wife, Brenda Whitley of the home; his son Greg Whitley, daughters Teresa Young, Tammy Howington, and Crystal Evans. Grandchildren: Kaylee, Callie, Travis, and Shannon. He is preceded in death by his father and mother; Herbert and Elsie Mae, brothers; David and Willie Whitley; sister, Margaret Morris and a half-brother; Clawson Hicks. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 25th at 11:00 AM at Broken Wing Fellowship Church, Raleigh. Burial will follow in the Hicks Family Cemetery, Raleigh. Although the family will not be present for a formal visitation, Mr. Whitley will lie in state for public view on Monday, May 24th from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Yates’s dedicated caregivers through his sickness: Sarah Eschenberg, Cindy Bass, Pam Cockrell, Lisa Brooks, and Belinda Hicks.
