Joshua Dixon Cook

June 17, 1994 — June 10, 2022

Angier- He is finally free. His beautiful sweet, kind, respectful heart is free. Joshua was born June 17, 1994, making a 2-week early appearance. His childhood couldn't have been more perfect. He loved baseball the first time he held one in his hand. His childhood was spent on the baseball field, in rec ball, travel ball, high school and even a short time in college. Baseball brought and formed many lifelong friends! When he wasn't playing ball, he was cheering on his Yankees, and favorite player, Derek Jeter. Joshua went to several Yankees and Nationals games throughout his life, and as much as he loved the games, he loved the beautiful cities of New York and Washington, the same. And if you knew Joshua, you knew his affinity for the Duke Blue Devils! Joshua loved nature and all living things! He had a special connection with the Freddie frogs and saved many turtles that were crossing the road. He saved the snakes and spiders, always moving them to safety. His passion for animals was no greater than his love for his cats, especially Jeter Boy, Dusty, and Murphy. Dusty was sitting with him in his final hours. Joshua's solace and peace came from music. He delved into every aspect of it- the artists, the stories, the instruments, the process. He loved and appreciated a variety of genres and enjoyed sharing what moved him. He had many, many friends who will cherish the countless memories made in his short 27 years. He leaves behind his parents, Christie and David, whose lives will be forever changed by this unthinkable tragedy. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Joshua was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Jean and Raymond Scott, and paternal grandparents, Josephine, and Wilbur Cook. He fought, he struggled...with depression, anxiety, alcohol, and drug addiction. But Joshua knew he was deeply and unconditionally loved. As a small child, when asked how much he loved us, he would so confidently say then, and until his dying day...."I love you all the way up to the sky, past the earth, on the line!" That is a lot of love. Joshua, fly high, sweet child. You are so loved. Family will visit with friends at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Thursday, June 16, 2022, at 5:30 PM. Joshua’s Celebration of Life will follow, at 7:00 PM. If you feel inclined, wear pink in Joshua’s memory.
