Josie Guins Matthews

Josie Bell Guins Matthews, 90, went home to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, February 19, 2022. A native of Harnett County, Josie was born June 25, 1931, to the late Marshall Thomas and Mantha Carlisle Townsend Guins. Josie and her late husband of 70 years, Ersie A. Matthews, were the founders of Matthews Sanitation Company. Josie was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother; her faith and her family were her passion. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, from 1-1:50PM at Catawba Springs Christian Church, 6801 Ten Ten Road, Apex, NC 27539. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 2PM, and burial will follow the service at Catawba Springs Christian Church Cemetery. Josie is survived by her daughters, Barbara Williams, of Charlotte, Susan Vaughan and husband, Ruffin, and Sheila Pierce and husband, Jeff, all of Apex; daughters-in-law, Vicky, Joy, and Paige Matthews; 17 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and sister, Ruby Shearon. In addition to her parents, Josie was preceded in death by her husband, Ersie A. Matthews; sons, Donald, Dwight, and David Matthews; and grandsons, Eric Williams and Daryle Matthews.
