Raleigh - Joyce Gray Dechent Young, 88, passed away quietly in her sleep on February 25, 2017 after a short illness. Her Funeral is a private service for immediate family at Pine Forest Memorial Gardens in Wake Forest. A memorial service to “Celebrate Her Life” will be held at The Oaks of Whitaker Glen, Bldg. C Atrium, from 3 to 5 pm on Saturday, March 25, 2017. Joyce was preceded in death by her husbands Louis Claude Dechent and Richard E. Young. She is survived by her daughter Flora Dechent Perkins and husband Greg Perkins, and her son Louis Claude Dechent, Jr along with grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joyce worked many years at Johnson Lamb Sporting Goods & Appliance as their home economist and toy buyer. While at Johnson Lamb she sold many Meredith College students their riding clothes during the 1950’s. She was in appliance sales at Tuttle Appliance during the 1960’s. Starting as an Avon Representative she became a District Manager for Avon Products having territories in Tidewater Virginia and the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill/Wilson areas retiring after 20 years. Not to be idle in retirement she was a commercial lines insurance agent at Green & Wooten Insurance retiring again after about 20 years. Joyce was a former Secretary for the Wake County Historical Society and The Cherry Hill Historical Foundation, Warrenton NC.
