Joyce Elizabeth White Oakes Williams

March 25, 1932 - September 24, 2013 RALEIGH Elizabeth Williams, 81, died peacefully on September 24, 2013 at Duke Neurosciences Medical Pavilion in Durham, NC. Beth grew up in Rutherford County and was the youngest of 8 children. She graduated from Wake Forest University and majored in Biology and Music. Beth taught piano to many children and adults for 30 years. She loved to travel, dance, and spend time with family and friends. She spent many hours in her greenhouse and doing yard work. She loved to crochet preemie baby hats. Beth was a pillar of strength for her family and truly believed in God, Family and Country. She is survived by her husband of 17 years, Charles A. Williams, step-son Tom Williams and wife Deborah of Raleigh. She is also survived by her sons Terry Oakes and wife Cindee, Jeff Oakes and wife Ivette, and Eric Oakes. The grandchildren are Christy Cochran and husband Stephen, Jason Williams, Jennifer and Joshua Oakes and the great-grandchildren are Abigail and Brandon Cochran, and Austin and Caiden Williams. She was preceded in death by father Edgar Pinkney White, mother Laura Koon White, her first husband, William Thomas Oakes and step son, Dr. Lynwood Williams. The funeral will be Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, 7600 Falls of Neuse Rd., Raleigh, at 12 Noon. The visitation will begin at 11:00 am and the interment will follow at Brier Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, per Beths request, please make memorial contributions to Mt.
