Juanita Moore Strickland

Juanita Moore Strickland of Raleigh, NC died Sunday, June 16, 2013, at the age of 89 at Duke Raleigh Hospital. Mrs. Strickland was a native of Vernon, Alabama and a resident of Raleigh since 1953. She started a career in real estate in the early 1970s and was a realtor, broker, and held a Graduate, REALTOR® Institute (GRI) designation. Mrs. Strickland was also a member of Hayes Barton Baptist Church of Raleigh for 41 years. She loved travel, especially to the beach. At home she loved gardening, Southern cooking, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She had a lively spirit, always spoke her mind and made a quick but lasting impression on those who knew her. Her late husband Cary Van Strickland, daughter Sylvia Strickland, and sister Florene Cubbie Dannewitz precede Mrs. Strickland in death. Surviving are her two sons, Cary M. Strickland and wife Carolyn of Raleigh, and Steven H. Strickland and wife Anita of Kure Beach, NC. Five grandchildren, Lisa Baker of Raleigh, Strick Strickland of Raleigh, Jacob Strickland and wife Ashley of Southern Pines, NC, Blair Pessetto and husband Joseph of Washington, DC, and Cary Strickland and wife Amanda of Raleigh, and two great-grandchildren, Henry and Mary Frances Strickland, also survive her. A memorial service will be held Wed. the 19th at 11:00am at Hayes Barton Baptist Church in Raleigh. The family will receive visitors in the church following the service. Bryan-Lee Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hayes Barton Baptist Family Life Center.
